The Farm

Picture
Hello and welcome!  We are a third-generation family farm committed to growing healthy food using organic practices.

We live on 34 acres in unceded Secwepemc territory beside the South Thompson River, near a village called Chase. We have chickens, dogs, and three cats.

The corn, strawberries, raspberries and a wide variety of vegetables and fruits that we grow are brought to farmers' markets in the area and placed in our weekly CSA Food Boxes with care. Sometimes there are events on the farm!

Tristan
describes himself as a "lazier than average farm kid," Following high school and a span of four years working service/labour jobs such as: dishwasher, line cook, ski & mountain bike patroller, janitor, construction worker, hotel clerk, first aid attendant, and forest firefighter, Tristan found his way back to the family farm.

Farming was a way to fulfill a dream of having a family in a healthy place where you could know exactly where your food came from. Tristan is happy that this dream was fulfilled with Michelle and their daughter, Avé.

Tristan took on operations of the family farm sooner than expected when his father expressed interest in selling the operation. In 2004, at 23 years of age, Tristan started transitioning to being the lead operator of Golden Ears Farm.

Farming with a fully mobile two-and-a-half-year-old should be interesting!

Michelle
approached a certified organic farm in Armstrong to learn how to grow food in her own garden. She worked with Pilgrims' Produce in 2010 and absolutely fell in love with farming -- staying with Pilgrims' until the end of 2013 when she moved to Golden Ears Farm.

Michelle is grateful to be outside every day. She believes that this work is meaningful, knowing that good food is being grown for family and community members, and that the land and water is being well taken care of for generations to come. It is also such an amazing place for Avé to gallivant around!

Michelle volunteers with various groups in the community: North Okanagan Organic Association (President), Certified Organic Associations of BC (Vice-President), TNRD Ag Advisory Commission, the Wild Salmon Caravan planning committee for Chase/Adams River events and Lindy in the Loops.

She's looking forward to a quieter season ahead where we really get into a rhythm and having more down time with Tristan and Avé, whether that be attending concerts, hiking, biking or swimming!

Anne
moved to the farm, at the age of six months, with her family in the late 1940's. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, she helped to plant, weed, harvest and sell vegetables, fruit and berries. Henry Grube's farm was well known for its corn and potatoes. While some was shipped to larger centres, much was sold from the front yard or delivered to the citizens of Chase.

She is very happy to see the fourth generation in the same fields where her father spent so many hours singing Danish folksongs as he hoed his way up and down the corn fields, or drove his tractor back and forth hilling potatoes.

Being part of a community that continues to contribute to local food sovereignty gives Anne great satisfaction!
